I get the urge to redo a space rather frequently for someone whose sign is cancer, cancer, capricorn—whether it's small tweaks for better flow or a complete design overhaul. What I didn't realize until now is that maybe a systems-based design could be the right fit—and Henrybuilt and Space Theory can offer viable solutions. Now we can see the best of both brands with fully functional kitchen systems showcased in a new flagship, which opened in Brooklyn on the DUMBO waterfront earlier in 2025.
When Scott Hudson, founder and CEO of Henrybuilt and Space Theory, decided to create this new home for his brands, he focused on quality, function, and purposeful environments. The result was a stunning joint showroom designed by both creative teams to highlight more than two decades of product development and systems-thinking across 8,000 square feet between two floors. The public showroom is below, with the design studio above.

Hudson moved Henrybuilt, founded in 2001, and its sister brand Space Theory, launched in 2019, from SoHo to DUMBO for a mix of reasons. “It was a combination of the feel of the place, with the park, the river, the feeling of a small neighborhood,” he explains of the Brooklyn neighborhood. “It's more about discovering than shopping, which is a good mindset for people coming to us. And despite the tourism, the area still has a small, local feel—with independent grocery stores, a hardware store, and long streets of old warehouses with unexpected galleries and shops.”
But the real clincher? The flagship is in the iconic Stable Building. “The ability to be in a freestanding, two-story building with such character, 50 yards from the park, was the catalyst for us,” Hudson says. With its amazing light and generous volumes, the building’s upper level is ideal for showcasing product development “in a more intimate way,” he adds. The building itself serves as an inspiring workspace for the team.

Thoughtfully designed to connect clients with each brand’s experience, Space Theory’s showroom on the first floor spotlights streamlined kitchen design through a curated selection of architectural systems. Upstairs, Henrybuilt’s space emphasizes luxury craftsmanship, high performance, and timeless aesthetics. Both include proprietary design software that simplifies customization and production, and a feature called “archetypes” lets visitors project and interact with design elements within each space—a high-tech touch sure to impress.
Industrial, innovative, and right at home in DUMBO, the new Henrybuilt and Space Theory showrooms mark a fitting next chapter for New York’s emerging Design District.
